Reclaimed River

We have created a meeting and respite place for the residents of Bielsko-Biała. It encourages spending time by the water and drawing energy from the proximity of the river. It consists of organic loungers descending into the river, stairs on both sides of the riverbed leading to a platform, and a platform acting as a stage and connecting the two banks. The lighting, needed after dark to move freely, has gained an additional function in our project. The arrangement of spot lights is intended to symbolically demonstrate the history of the Biała River to passers-by. This river used to divide the city into two separate ones. For this reason, the descents on both sides are illuminated in colors corresponding to the colors on the emblem of the city of Bielsko-Biała. Two people standing in the right places are able to randomly or specifically activate the light installation, where they will be able to observe how the band of lights moves from their location up the stairs and then returns to meet in the middle of the platform, mixing their colors with the river flow along the way.
