Projekt Arting 2024 "miasto__szczęśliwe"
Reclaimed River
Reclaimed River
We have created a meeting and respite space for the residents of Bielsko-Biała. It encourages people to spend time by the water and draw energy from the proximity of the river. It consists of organic loungers descending into the river, stairs on either side of the riverbed leading to a platform, and a platform that acts as a stage and connects the two banks. Lighting, necessary for free movement after dark, has gained an additional function in our project. The arrangement of spotlights aims to symbolically demonstrate the history of the Biała River to passersby. This river once divided the city into two separate rivers. For this reason, the access points on both sides are illuminated in colors corresponding to the colors on the Bielsko-Biała city coat of arms. Two people standing in the appropriate positions can randomly or predeterminedly activate the lighting installation, where they can observe how the band of lights moves from their location up the stairs and then returns to meet in the center of the platform, mixing their colors with the river's current along the way.
