Idea
The theme of this edition of the competition was the question of the city, its space, infrastructure, and inhabitants. The idea was to utilize design thinking methods and the potential of industrial designers for
The development of Bielsko-Biała. The organizers hoped to acquire design solutions and establish collaboration in the areas of innovation, education, and new technologies – areas that could impact the city's development as a good place to live.

Arting Project 2022
The competition, as envisioned by its creators, was intended to be a platform for collaboration between designers and Bielsko-Biała entrepreneurs. The competition topics addressed specific needs expressed by companies.
This formula stopped working over time. However, the organizers of Projekt Arting 2022 "city?" attempted to symbolically reactivate it – they proposed two new categories: "Bielsko-Biała" and "challenges," hoping that participants would create projects dedicated to specific urban problems. The jury composed of Krzysztof Gieleciak, Jacek Graś, Marek Liskiewicz, Zbigniew Michniowski, and Andrzej Sobaś assessed 50 projects. The main prize was awarded to: Gabriela Jaszewska, Sara Matias, and Natalia Wojciechowska. Prizes were also awarded: in the technology category – Karol Murlak; in the environment category – Klaudia Chodura, and in the Bielsko-Biała category – Paula Smolka. Additionally, honorable mentions were won by: Paulina Woźny; Magdalena Górska (eKodama); Kuba Neumann; Zuzanna Rutkowska; Karolina Sielski; Renata Demczuk; Mariola Gańczarczyk and Renata Demczuk; Arkadiusz Typkiewicz.

Events
The Arting 2022 "city?" project had an expanded format – a competition exhibition, an expert conference, and a debate titled "city? design?" were accompanied by the "11.11 project" design experiment, focused on the revitalization of 11 Listopada Street in Bielsko-Biała. It utilized design thinking methodology to define problems and collaboratively devise solutions by the local community. The experiment was complemented by events around 11 Listopada Street: design workshops, a historical walk, a discussion panel, the opening of a student exhibition, film screenings, and a concert. These activities also resulted in the creation of the "BB Design Lab," a design laboratory operating under the working slogan: "Let's design the city together." It is headquartered in the People-Innovations-Design Foundation building. The 11th edition of the competition also yielded research material prepared by invited experts.

"[…] I am glad that this year's edition of the festival took up the topic of the city. This issue is, on the one hand, quite common and simple, because it concerns all of us as people living in the city, and on the other, as complex as the urban structure, as history, and as the differences that divide us as residents [...]"

Jarosław Klimaszewski, Mayor of Bielsko-Biała

project 11.11

We have been implementing the 11.11 project since spring 2022, it is a design experiment based on finding solutions that will revive 11 Listopada Street in Bielsko-Biała. We are working on the occasion of the sustainable design competition Projekt Arting 2022 miasto?.

In spring and summer we collected information from entrepreneurs and residents associated with 11 Listopada Street, as well as other residents of Bielsko-Biała, about the problems affecting the promenade and ideas on how to solve these problems.

The information gathered is clearly divided into several key categories. There is a lack of new interesting premises, and what is connected with this, rents are inadequate to the quality of premises and do not encourage new tenants. There is a lack of greenery and comfortable, really needed infrastructure. There is a lack of places with publicly accessible art and enabling the implementation of creative activities. The aesthetics of the street, despite renovations, is disturbed by the multitude of signs in different styles and not always good design and technical preparation.

Projekt Arting 2022 "city?"

industrial design competition

Arting 2022 project "city?" This is the 11th edition of the industrial design competition aimed at sustainable design. The topic is the question about the city, its space, infrastructure and, finally, its inhabitants. We ask this question to designers who strive for a balance between the matter and the soul of the city in their projects.

The idea behind this year's Project Arting, is to use the methods of design thinking and the potential of industrial design designers for the development of the city of Bielsko-Biala. We hope to attract design solutions and establish cooperation in the areas of innovation, education and new technologies. Areas that can influence the development of the city as a good place to live.
