Nurn – Biodegradable urn

NURN is a project of a biodegradable urn with a new burial ceremony at sea in reference to Slavic traditions using local raw materials and technologies. The project responds to the growing need to create a new funeral ritual not related to any existing form of burial, but in accordance with Polish law. More and more people lead a nomadic lifestyle without attachment to place and land, and therefore traditional farewell ceremonies are becoming archaic. The project also addresses the issue of ecology, without causing further exploitation of existing necropolises, and allows for a dignified burial as part of the funeral allowance.

For the needs of the project, new technology and material for making urns were created. The process of making the urn is simple and nature-friendly, and involves cooperation with local craftsmen and socially excluded people.
