About the "Winged" project

At the Bielsko-Biała airport, an exhibition entitled "Winged" - 90 years of designing and building gliders in Bielsko-Biała took place, an exhibition that combined history, technology and art.

The event attracted a wide audience – from aviation enthusiasts, through school students, to residents of the region.

The exhibition was inaugurated with a ceremonial opening reception, which included a meeting with Edward Margański – an outstanding pilot and designer whose name is permanently etched in the history of Polish aviation. His presence gave the event a unique character – attendees had the opportunity to hear personal reminiscences, learn about the designer's work, and discuss the future of gliding.

The exhibition's opening event was also attended by aviation seniors, students from Bielsko-Biała schools, students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, as well as residents and aviation enthusiasts. The gathering became a space for intergenerational dialogue, where the past met the present – both in technological and artistic contexts.

The event was organized by the People-Innovations-Design Foundation, which has been promoting local industrial heritage and design for years as part of its multi-year "Heritage-Design" program (implemented as part of the Arting Project). The program aims to protect and creatively develop local design icons and the region's industrial heritage.

Thanks to cooperation with the Bielsko Aeroclub, co-organizer of the project, the wooden hangar became a space filled with a historical aviation exhibition and screenings of old documentaries about gliding in Bielsko, its creators and pilots.

The exhibition proved that aviation is not only a technology, but also a cultural heritage and a source of artistic inspiration.

The project partners were: the Bielsko-Biała Aeroclub and the Bielsko-Biała City Hall.
The preparation of the exhibition "Skrzydlaci" – 90 years of designing and building gliders in Bielsko-Biała" and the organization of the opening ceremony and meeting were possible thanks to the financial support of the Silesian Voivodeship.
